Here is a generic example of a Father of the Bride Speech that you could easily customise for your own requirements.
Can I first start by thanking my wife, as if it wasn’t for her it would be impossible for me to stand here as the proudest father alive.
Secondly it is great to see so many familiar faces, and some not so familiar, who have all become a collective family through the wedding of [GROOM'S NAME] and my daughter [DAUGHTER'S NAME]. I know you have all come to share in their happiness today and on behalf of them I would like to say thank you.
I also know that we all have people who can’t be here today, but wherever they are, I am sure they are keeping an eye on proceedings and celebrating in their own ways.
I have known that this day would come since the very first time I held [DAUGHTER'S NAME] in the hospital on the day she was born. And although I have had many years to get to grips with the idea that one day she would find a good man who she wants to spend the rest of her life with, it still hasn’t got any easier.
But it is a happy day for me. One of the best days of my life. Every father wants the best for their children, and wants them to be happy.
I have got to know [GROOM'S NAME] rather well since he and [DAUGHTER'S NAME] started dating, and it is to my great relief that she has chosen such a great man to share her life with. And I open my arms and my heart in welcoming [GROOM'S NAME] to our family, and to be my son-in-law.
Now the second biggest worry that I had was trying to find a fitting story to tell about [DAUGHTER'S NAME]. And after hours of talking to family and friends I still couldn’t find one that was quite right. But it came to me last night as I was walking home [from the pub after a snooker game], so here goes.
As I was walking down the road thinking about this day, I started to look back through [DAUGHTER'S NAME]’s life from the day she was born to this very day.
The moment [DAUGHTER'S NAME] was born was one of the best days of my life. I felt privileged to be a father to such a beautiful baby girl. She and her mother were everything to me, all I needed at that moment in time.
Then she started growing up, learning to crawl, then walk and talk. Within a blink of an eye she could tie her own shoelaces and ride a bike. She went to school one morning and the next thing that I remember is her begging me for money to buy her a prom dress, then two months ago she asked for her wedding dress.
The moral of this story is that life moves too fast for us to take in every single moment of every single day. So make the most of life, find the people you love and never stop loving them. Because one day they won’t be around anymore.
And the world will have moved too fast for you to say the things that you really wanted to say. [DAUGHTER'S NAME], you have brightened every moment of every day since you came into my life.
[DAUGHTER'S NAME] please go and enjoy your life, be happy and be loved. If you do that then you will make me the most proud father alive.
So, Ladies and Gentlemen, please raise your glasses to my son-in-law [GROOMS 'NAME] and my beautiful daughter [DAUGHTER'S NAME]. Let them have every happiness imaginable, and remember we must look after them well as it will be they who choose my retirement home!
The Bride and Groom.
