Grace for Wedding Breakfast

Hi

I've been asked to say grace prior to the meal at a friend's wedding this Saturday!

I only know the one from boarding school that goes:

for what we are about to receive may the lord make us truly thankful.

I need one that is not particularly religious and will go down well with a farming / rugby playing guest list. Humour wouldn't go amiss either.

Any ideas?

you could try 'rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub' or 'for what we are about to eat, we thank you Lord for this big treat'

I just had to give one and this is what I wrote:

Lord, we thank you for the food we share today in celebration of John and Jane's marriage.
We thank you for the love, the guidance and support of our parents, our family and our friends.
We thank you for making this day so enjoyable and ask you to bless those that have worked so hard to make this day a success for John and Jane.
Thank you Lord for the goodness we have in our lives and the beautiful people we have to share it with.
Heavenly Father, we ask this blessing for the newly married couple, Amen.

I love this "rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub" (i'm definitely going to use this one sometime)

But I feel with a wedding breakfast grace it would be safe to stay away from humor. Keep the grace simple, short thanking the Lord for food and also to bless the newly married couple.

Deidre Just read this page, I have to do grace tomorrow and came across this one
" We thank thee Lord for happy hearts,
For rain and sunny weather
We thank thee Lord for this food
and that today we are together"

Indeed we are blessed by the Lord, that we have come together in this solemn occasion of the marriage of so and so. Let us dine on this meal which again has been bestowed upon us by the Lord.

I am just preparing a wedding breakfast blessing and can suggest

Lord bless this meal e're its begun
and bless these two now joined as one.
Let us give thanks for what we eat
and may their married lives be sweet.

Dear Lord, as we share this food in the celebration of Jane and John, we acknowledge you as the provider and we ask your blessing upon it. We also ask for your blessing and favour upon this newly married couples as they begin their life together. May they grow as one and treasure each other for the rest of their lives in Jesus Name. Amen
