Presentation starting with a video
I have developed a presentation for work consisting on a video as slide one continued by only 3 more slides (not videos). The problem is that at the end of the video it just stops and does not continue to slide 2. I want this to be automatic BUT no matter what I try to change the presentaion will go no further. I am using Powerpoint 2007
Can anyone help please |

Hi Steve,
I would suggest playing the video outside of PowerPoint. Yes, the audience will shortly see the windows desktop, but this is usually not that bad at all. In my experience, videos in PowerPoint fail terribly. The integration is quite bad (e.g. black screen on projector even though on the computer it looks fine), and then you would be stuck 3 minutes trying to figure out why the heck it's not working - THAT's bad. So I would go for the safe choice and just use a normal video player for playing the video. From what I've heard, Apple's Keynote has a much better integration of media files, so if you use that, it might be worth a try. But PowerPoint and video are not a great match. Best regards, Oliver

Set a slide timing
It is not as bad as you think. Check the duration of your video, and then set the slide to advance on that timing, plus a few buffer seconds. I am a video editor who works with advanced ppt layouts on a daily basis . . . this will work for you.
In a prior reply, it was mentioned that video in ppt never looks good. I beg to differ with that. If you use your settings properly (like zoom to full screen, etc.), video will integrate seamlessly into your presentation and make you look like a star. Video is used in ppt to generate momentum . . . you don't want to stop the flow of the presentation while you ALT-TAB to another window and then press play. Just make sure that you keep all of your files together, and in a folder on the desktop. Don't run from flash drives or network drives, you are asking for trouble there. Chuck |
