Vocal Variety

I need to give a speech on "Vocal Variety" and was wondering if you have some topics and ideals.

Thank you

It sounds as if it is an ideal one to either use your voice, or to bring in some examples - perhaps on a tape or video recording.

I have just received the following email in from Professional Voice - a voice coaching company (www.professionalvoice.co.uk)

Professional Voice's tips on Vocal Variety are:

"Find where the natural pitch of your voice lies, then think of using a contrasting pitch for keywords, a slight lift, and for less important ones , a slight drop.

Use a gradual build in pitch as you take us to your main point.

Try an open rising inflection on a question to wake us up!

Use changes of pace to give different weight to what you are saying.

Perhaps quieter rather than louder at key passages.

Simple rule : "new pitch, new thought"

Hi there,

I don't have a direct reply for you. But what I would suggest is to gather a couple of friends or family members and embark on an Idea Map. The Idea Map is similar to that of a mind-map.

Put your main topic in the middle and brainstorm! flip it, flock it, dissect it. For example, what comes to mind when you think of vocal. Singing, voice, scolding, birds chriping etc etc..

Distill all these ideas and then do the same for variety. Combine the ideas and come up with a main central idea which can be used for your presentation.

Good Luck
