PowerPoint compression software

If you find the file size of your presentations is too large, it is probably because as you add pictures to your powerpoint presentations the file size increases dramatically.

A great solution to this problem is a small piece of software called NXP Lite http://www.nxpowerlite.com/

I have been using it for the past three years and it has saved me a lot of heartache. It can usually reduce a 6MB file down to under 1.4MB.

You can download a free trial version which is usually good enough to get you through a tight patch, but at £16 it is hardly likely to break the bank.

Be careful though - on the highest compression ratios you will start to notice a small deterioration in the image quality. If you use nortmal compression it will usually be a high enough quality level.

I've found this presentation optimizer to also be very useful.

Powerpoint compression tools seem to be mushrooming: there must be a need.

I've found PowerPressed a very handy compression tool, because it is a plugin in Powerpoint, not an external program. They offer a free trial download too:

There is also a handy online compression option if you are not allowed to install any software on your company's PC. The first ride seems to be free of charge.

Enough choice, I would say.

Cheers.

PPTminimizer

I compressed a 25 MB presentation to less than 1 MB with PPTminimizer. This is really helpful, now I can send it via Email using the pack&go function.
just a great utility !!

PowerPoint compression with PPTminimizer

The great thing about PPTminimizer is that the compressed files don't have to be unzipped again. They remain in their original format and you can edit in to them without further ado. Image quality remains good too.

Obviously no-one is inventing the wheel again and again but the difference in all these tools is in the quality and attention to detail. That's where PPTminimizer wins.

the conclusion of the story

Gee guys,
I don't know where all these promotional texts come from:
This is the best - no this is the best...
Personally, I think they can all do the trick. Criteria that matters is image resolution, whether the layout stays the same (!), of course compression rate, usability and multi-language support in case things do go wrong.
It is eventually not the core value that probably all of them deliver, but it is the value added that we receive: for me, pptminimizer works the best. But hey, that's just for me...

It is also worth knowing that there are two things within PowerPoint that can reduce file size.

1. Turn off fast saves.
Tools > Options > Save and uncheck Allow fast saves

This sounds uninstinctive but is really useful in bringing down the file size.

2. You can compress large pictures on the picture toolbar.
View > Toolbars > Picture and select the Compress Pictures icon. This can usually bring down the file size.
