completely remove embedded music- to reduce file size
I'm using Powerpoint 2003.
If I embed music in my presentation, but then later decide I don't want it, I can't figure out how to remove it to reduce the file size. I know how to stop the music from playing, but for file size purposes, how do I remove it completely? |

Deleting an embedded sound added using Insert > Movies & sounds etc should reduce the file size when you resave. If it doesn't for you check that "Allow Fast Save" in OFF (Tools > Options > Save Tab)

Thanks John. That works!
So I just did 'Save As' and the new file doesn't have the music and the file size was reduced. Thanks!!!! |

And did you turn off "Fast Saves" - You should and never ever turn it back on!

This is for my dad's computer, so I'll ask him if 'fast save' is off or on.
What is 'fast save' and why is it bad? Thanks again. |

Enable Fast Save is in Tools > Options> Save
It is enabled by default in versions before 2007. When you save it "saves time" by only saving changes leading to much larger files and also a greater possibility of errors and crashes. Since saving nowadays is pretty fast it really only has disadvantages and in the latest version has gone from the user interface When it is enabled and you "save as" (with a new name) rather than just save the extra info is lost and file size reduces again. Trust me - turn it off!

I tried insert and uncheck fast saves, but it did not work for me. Otherwise, try this :
Click tool tab -> General -> Change the limit sound file less than the current On the Slide pane (Left )-> R click the slide that content the music file -> Click Slide Transition... -> On the Right under Modify trasition-> select "No sound" Now you can save your presentation using Save As, choosing Presentation in Save As type, and your saved file size will be reduce significantly |

No offence meant but that doesn't really make sense
Changing the size limit for embedded sounds doesn't affect transition sounds AND has no effect on sounds already inserted. IF the sound was a transition sound then setting it to no sound and saving will reduce the file size of course If it's a sound inserted as "normal" it will have no effect
