Video insert white screen

I'm creating a Power Point presentation on computer containiing Windows XP and Powerpoint 2003. I would like to insert several videos into different slides. I'm attempting to have the videos start automatically. I have inserted the Videos and they are all .wmv Windows Media Player and some mpegs.

Once the slide containing the video is opened the video screen inside the slide turns white and nothing happens, no video or sound.

Anyone have a solution or solutions?

Second , I realize this is not a powerpoint problem; however,I am unable to hyperlink a PDF file in a Word file. Any solutions for this?

Your total path length is tooo long

e.g. c:\documents and settings\your username\etc\etc\etc

thanks for the quick solution. i've been re-encoding my vids for hours. only to find out that the 'filenames' are the prob.

The "white screen" effect has happened off and on, and NO AMOUNT of RECODING seemed to work! (I kept putting things in the same folder, I guess!)
SO - this time - I just moved the .wmv videos to a folder right on the C-drive.

BAM!
