How to edit existing Powerpoint presentations?

I have just done my first ever Powerpoint which I saved as a Powerpoint Show. It is very basic, but OK for a first attempt. Then I needed to correct something, so I went back into it and made the correction, then saved it again over the original. But non of the animations would work, so I had to re-do all the effects of the whole thing. Then it worked fine again. Since then I spotted a mistake and went back in to correct it. Again, all the effects stopped working. Is this normal, or is there a way of editing one page without spoilng the whole show?

It's NOT normal!

Which PPT version is it?
How did you add the animations?
If you just reopen a saved presentation without altering do they play?

power point

Again, I agree - this is not normal.

Anytime you add animations to your powerpoint slides - it should show a number next to the item you are animating.

I have presented various powerpoints and modified many of them without loosing the animations. Are you using the latest version?
