SONG presentation

Hi! I have to give a 5 minute presentation about the qulaities and attributes I can bring to the company, and as part of the presentation I need to select a song or piece of music that is meaningful to me and that I feel best reflects my personality. Also I will not have access to any electrical presentation equipment. I really dont know where to start with this. I have list of skills that I reckon the company are looking for (by the way its for a trainee accountants position) and I've also chosen the song You Gotta Be by Des'ree. (cos its one of my fav songs and always makes me feel better i guess!) Do u think I need to print the song out for them? Shall I incorporate different sentances from the song into my presentation? HELP! Thanks

I think that they are probably not looking for your favourite song, but more a song that describes you attributes.

"You gotta be" is not a bad choice for an upbeat song, but they lyrics are not great. Gotta be infers that you are not aleady. With this song Lyrics - the message are far from clear.

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm

It could show you as being not wise, weak and uncool.

I personally would write down a list of your top characteristics and then trawl through for a song that describes them. For example if you are good at projecting the future it could be "I can see clearly now" of if you are a bit of a star "Shooting Star" from Smash Mouth, or if you are a winner "We are the cahmpions from Queen".

On a funnier note if you don't get the job you could always hum "I still haven't found what I'm looking for" by U2.

I don't know if any of our readers have got a more suitable song?

Why do you say so? I believe that the Doc is right. The song should reflect you, not how good it makes you feel.

A song that is reflection of you would be perfect, a song that jumps out at you, a song with a purpose would be good.

How about "Something inside (so strong)" by Labi Siffre? with lyrics like:

The higher you build your barriers
The taller I become
The further you take my rights away
The faster I will run.....
......Because there's
Something inside so strong
I know that I can make it.....

Maybe it would be too much in this instance? i thin it's quite emotive.

Remember that whatever song you choose, everyone can have a different interpretation of it, as highlighted on this thread already.

Therefore, having an explanation of why you chose it, is as important (if not more so) as the song itself
