Hi. My grandmother died yesterday morning and my mother would like me, as her oldest grand-daughter to read a poem at her funeral. My mum had a poem but can't find it now so if anyone can help. Unfortunately she does not know the title but it is about a mother, grandmother and what she meant to the family. That is about all I know at the moment and would greatly appreciate any help.

Mom Lived Her Life for Love of Friends and Family

Mom lived her life for love of friends and family,
Neither asking for nor wanting a return.
Her days became a sunlit homily,
With others' joy her joy and main concern.
When we were ill, she also became sick;
When we were cut, she, too, began to bleed.
Of our oil lamp she was the wick,
Drawing her bright flame from our need.
Some say that such behaviour’s out of date:
That self-fulfilment is the way to grace.
But Mom, without much choice, then chose her fate,
Finding greater truth in an embrace.
She lives on in the sparkle in our eyes:
Laughing, quiet, gentle, loving, wise.

hi my mother died a few weeks ago and i have to read a poem to aswell as a speach i would recomend these ...



Not a day goes by that I don't think of you.
They say I should move on, but tell me, where?
Where such love as I have shared with you,
Such sweetness from such joy so many years?
There has to be some room for storing sorrow,
Some place to keep one's undivided pain,
Where past can still be present, though in shadow,
And I can hold you in my arms again.

Though you are dead, and I must live alone.
Time is nothing but an open window
To things more real, which you and I have known.
When we were married, we became one flesh;
So now in me you'll not return to dust.

Recently I dreamed I talked to you.

I cant beleive that a poem for a funeral can catch so many people. this was so emotional for me. i nearly fell into tears. you must be so devastated to be writing such a poem like this. who ever this was for they must of been very very proud of you!!!!!!!!

There is nothing I can do, to make her come back
There are no words I can say, that can replace her words you long to hear

There are no answers I can give that will satisfy your questions,
There is not another soul I can introduce to you,
That will ever replace hers
And there is no love I can offer you
That will ever replace the love you shared

I cannot promise your broken heart
Will ever be complete,
I will not say that it could have been worse
I will not deny that it was a tragedy
I will not lie and tell you she will be back

She never really left

I do promise you she hears you when you speak
I will say she loves you no matter what the distance
I will not deny she is in a better place
And will not lie she is waiting to greet you someday

She is everything you do
She is the air you breathe
She is every beat of your heart

I'm in the same position as you and i found this poem. for me it doesn't fit but maybe it would for you?

Legacy of Love.

A wife, a mother, a grandma too,
This is the legacy we have from you.
You taught us love and how to fight,
You gave us strength, you gave us might.
A stronger person would be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for us all in one way or another,
Not just as a wife not just as a mother.
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come for you to rest.
So go in peace, you've earned your sleep,
Your love in our hearts, we'll eternally keep.

This is just what a friend and I need!! That poem is perfect!! Thank you so much for posting it. Our team-member and a friend of ours dad past away yesterday morning. He had a growing brain tumor inside of his head. He fought the good fight and until his very last breath he lived life to its fullest. Again, thank you. We both have to come up with a eulogy and we were looking for a poem. Thank you, thank you!

My colleague and my team member passed away on Tuesday. she was a loving person, always smilling even when she was sick she would force her self to come to work. please help me with a poem.

my nanna just passed away recently and my mother will be flying overseas for the funeral. so i wont be attending*tear* i wanted to write a poem for my mum to read at the reception but had much difficulty. these poems are all beautiful and were clearly written by talented people. they have given me much inspiration. thankyou

This may help. It's for a granddad, but you can change 'granddad' to 'grandma'.

Granddad, you were just a lad,
So many years ago.

i am only 13yrs old and i have seen so much trough me grandmothers eyes before she died she told me and when she goes she wishes no one to miss her and that nobody should miss another person because they would want us to enjoy life just as they had in their time.

I could not find any suitable poems that fitted my nan perfectly, so i used a few words here and there, but rewrote and personalized this poem:

Poem for Nan

A wife and mum, a grandma too,
You showed us how to love,
Family was everything to you ,
You couldn’t get enough.

You were so strong and always kind,
Your love shone in your face,
You wore your heart out on your sleeve,
You can never be replaced.

For all of us you gave your best,
For friends and family too,
But now the time has come for rest,
And we’re left missing you.

The friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
We remember without sorrow,
For these things too we know you miss,
But wait for in tomorrow.

Perhaps your time seemed a little brief,
Especially for us,
